Getting Ready for Sunday February 3, 2008

January 31, 2008

February 3 Sermon “Giving Our Praise” When we think of worship, we often think of singing. That is not an accident; singing to the Lord is encouraged throughout scripture.  Although, singing is not the only way to worship God, it is a very important way to express our love for God. In today’s message, we will explore why your song is so important to God.

We have done a lot of these songs before.  “Children of God” will be new to you unless you have listened to Steven Curtis Chapman’s latest CD “This Moment”.  “Children of God” is being played a lot on my mp3 player as of late.  You can listen to a clip and purchase the song from someplace like itunes, or even walmart.com.  It’s definitely worth the listen, and a lot of fun.  I’ll take time before services this Sunday to teach parts of it, so be early.

“So High” is one of my favorite worship songs of all time.  It’s one of only two songs that Cindy and I have recorded that we didn’t write.  You can find it on our “Prelude” cd.  The writers are Barry & Michelle Patterson from Florisant, Colorado.  Check out their version of “So High” by clicking the link below.  The link will take you to their CDBaby site.  Scroll down to track #3 and click the little play icon. “So High” Link

”All Because of Jesus” is written by Steve Fee, and has become a regular here at Oasis.  What a testimony to say, “I’m alive because I’m alive in You”.  It’s truly all because of Jesus.  What better way to worship Him by proclaiming it to everyone around.  You can listen to Fee’s version of “All Because of Jesus” on his myspace page.  There’s also a video of him leading it live. (pretty cool huh?)

Thanks for taking time to check out what will be happening on Sunday.  Take time to pray for our services, and those who will be serving in them.  I’m really looking forward to worshiping with you on Sunday.

What to Expect

January 31, 2008

Hey everyone!  Just wanted to drop a note here to tell you what you can expect to see here in the coming weeks.  Every week I’ll be posting a blog with a brief description of the sermon for Sunday, as well as a set list of songs we will be singing.  Included in the set list will be the name of the author and the title of a cd where it can be found.  Eventually I hope to have direct links where you can listen to at least a clip of each song and have the opportunity to purchase it for donwload to your computer.  We plan on posting any original (written by our members) music that we use during worship to this blog as well so that you can learn new music before you arrive on Sunday Mornings.

I would love to get your feedback as well.  Being a blog, I would love to hear about experiences you had during worship.  Maybe you see a song in our list that specifically speaks to you.  I would love for you to share that with us.  I will also occasionally ask questions that would help us in preparing for future services.

We expect that we will do far more with this blog than what I’ve listed above, but that’s it for now.  Thanks for checking in, and please check back often.

Doug

Welcome to our blog

January 29, 2008

Welcome to the new staff blog of the Oasis Church of central Arkansas. While our church website (http://www.insideoasis.com) is designed primarily to reach visitors, the staff at Oasis also sees a real need to help our members and regular attendees to prepare for worship.

We believe that true worship occurs throughout the week–not just on Sunday. So this blog will be updated frequently in order to help our members prepare for Sunday’s worship every single day of the week. Expect to see short devotionals, information about upcoming community group studies, videos of new songs (to help you learn them before Sunday), and audio clips of the songs we will sing each week. We have named the blog, “in spirit and truth“, a reference to John 4:23, where Jesus teaches about true worship.

Maybe if God really works a miracle, we’ll even be able to teach Brother Todd to post once in a while!
