October 5th Sermon “Living With Money”

How do we live with money without loving it? It is true that we must have money to live in this present world.  It is necessary, and by itself there is nothing wrong or evil about money.  But many move to a level of loving their money over everything else.  This is when we begin to put our faith in our money and not God; it’s when we trust our own abilities to earn before we trust God.  This is when we become materialistic.  To define this, materialism is not the possession of material things but the obsession with them.  So in your life, is money to live or to love?

This week we begin our new series “Common Cents”.  Our first message of this series is entitled “Living With Money” in which Bro. Todd will be talking about how to live with money without letting it control our lives.  Our music this week focuses on loving God and putting Him first.  I know personally that when God is in first place, everything else falls into it’s rightful place.  It’s only when I put something else into God’s place that everything starts to go crazy.

We begin our service this week with the song “Love the Lord” by Lincoln Brewster.  This song pretty much sums up the entire theme for the day.  We need to love our God with all of our heart, soul, mind, and strength.  It starts out with a general statement of “love the Lord your God”, but quickly becomes personal when we say “I will love the Lord with all my heart, soul, mind, and strength.  Take time this week to listen to this song by clicking the link in the chart above.

“Everything To Me” continues our theme of putting God first.  I have to remind myself everyday that Christ should be my everything.  So often we fall into the trap of “I need this” or “I need that”.  We are told in the scriptures that God will provide all of our needs without us even having to worry about it.  If I can remember that, my life would be so much less stressful.  Take a listen to a very rough version of this song by clicking the link in the chart above.

“Sing Sing Sing” will be a new song for Oasis.  It’s a relatively new song from Chris Tomlin who writes a lot of songs that we sing at Oasis.  The only version I could find online is a live version that is a little different than the way we will do it, but it will give you the general idea of the song.  I really like this song a lot, and hope that we will lift our voices together as we SING SING SING!

“Jesus Is All the World to Me” is a traditional hymn that is one of my favorites.  This song continues our theme.  I love the first line “Jesus is all the world to me.  My life, my joy, my all”.  Our God is not only Master, and creator, but He’s also our friend.

We will finish up the music portion of the service with “Song of Praise” which continues our time of worship.  We just sang this song last week, so hopefully it’s still fresh in everyone’s mind.  You can listen to the song by clicking the link in the chart above.

OK, so I said that was the last song, but we will actually finish the entire service with “Our Love Is Loud”.  This is a very familiar song to us here at Oasis, so I’m really expecting us to shout it out.  You can listen to this song by clicking the link in the chart above.

Thanks for taking time to see what is going on this Sunday at Oasis.  Be sure to take time to attend Community Group this week if you have not already.  I’m really looking forward to worshipping with you all on Sunday.

September 28th Sermon “When God Says Go”

There comes a time in our prayer life when God is going to say “go”. It is always good to get the answer, but sometimes his answer can really challenge our faith. In today’s message, we will discover how we should respond when God says “go”.

This week we will be finishing our series of “Simple Answers”.  This week we look at “When God says Go”  Sometimes when we pray, God says “go for it, it’s time!”  This week we will see how we should respond when we are told to act.

We begin this week with a song of praise entitled “Come Magnify the Lord”.  This song celebrates the fact that our God is Holy, and He is worthy of the praises that we sing.  You can check out a very rough version of this song on our soundclick page by clicking the link in the chart above.

We continue our time of worship with “You’re Worthy of My Praise” and “Song of Praise” which state the goodness of our God, and our want to worship Him.  All three of our first songs are a celebration, which is what we often feel when God answers our prayers with a “yes” or “go”.  Check out these songs by clicking the link in the chart above.

We finish the music portion of our service with the chorus of an old hymn entitled “Follow On”.  It’s very simple and states “follow, follow I would follow Jesus anywhere everywhere I would follow on.  Everywhere He leads me I will follow on  It’s a simple chorus, but the meaning is one that we should take seriously.  Would I truly follow Jesus ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE?  Pretty big words to just sing without even thinking.  Examine your heart this week, and see if that is truly your intention.

Thanks for taking time to see what is going on this Sunday at Oasis.  Community group Sunday Night was truly awesome, and I’m looking forward to Wednesday as well.  I look forward to worshiping with everyone on Sunday.

September 21st Sermon “When God Says NO”

There are times when we pray that God is not going to yes to our request. It doesn’t matter how many people you get to pray or how long you pray, if it is not God’s will the answer will always be no. Today, we will look at what we should do when God says no.

This week we continue our series entitled “Simple Answers; What God Says When We Pray”.  This week our topic is “When God Says No”.  It’s so hard for us to hear that word isn’t it?  I know my 2 year old hates to hear it.  I remind her time after time that Dad says no for a reason.  I have to remind myself that there are also reasons that God says no.  He can see the whole picture, and we can only see a small piece.  He knows better than we do.  Today we will celebrate the fact that God has everything under control, even when things don’t go as we plan.

We just have a few songs this week.  We begin with “You Are God Alone” which I think is fitting for the day.  You are God alone and before time began You where on Your throne, You are God alone.  And right now through the good times and bad You are on Your throne, You are God alone.  I have to be reminded that God is God, and no matter what is going on in my life, He is in control.  I simply need to trust that He knows best, even when the answer I hoped for does not happen.

We continue our theme of trust with the hymn “Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus”.  This is my all time favorite hymn.   I love the lyrics of this song.  Here’s a bit of useless knowledge for you:  According to my mom, when I was two years old she found me standing in my bed one night singing the chorus of this song.  It seems that my Great Grandma (Granny) had taught it to me when she was baby-sitting one day.  This is an even bigger accomplishment to me personally since I found out last year that I didn’t even know my ABC’s until I was FIVE YEARS OLD!  Fortunately my daughter gets her brains from her Mom, and don’t you know Cindy points that out often. (ha)

We finish with the song “You Never Let Go”.  No matter what we face in our lives, we can be sure that our God is always with us, and He will never let us go.  This is a song of celebration to the fact that one day all of our troubles will be over when we go to live with Christ forever.

Thanks for taking time to see what is going on this Sunday at Oasis.  Hopefully this week we will have electricity.  I look forward to worshipping with you Sunday.

September 14th Sermon “When God Says Slow”

There are occasions when we pray that God will say slow. That is he lets us know that he is going to answer our prayer, but it is just not going to be right now. There are times when God is bringing things together at just the right time and in the right way for his will to be done. In today’s message, we will talk about what we should do while we wait on the Lord.

I hope you enjoyed our time of worship yesterday.  This week we continue our series “Simple Answers” with a message entitled “When God Says Slow”.  So often we want our prayers answered when we want them, and the way we want them.  The thing I have to constantly remind myself is that God can see the big picture, and I can only see a small piece at a time.  I need to be patient and wait on His timing.  Do you ever struggle with that?

Our music today allows us to worship God for who He is, and to pledge our trust in Him.  We begin with “You Are Holy” which is one of my favorites.   I love it when the guys sing the chorus, and the ladies sing about the many things that God is to us.  You are Lord of Lords, You are King of Kings, You are mighty God Lord of everything….”  I must admit it’s hard to stay on the piano bench when we get going with this song.  My feet want to dance despite their lack of grace and rhythm.  Check out a video of this song by clicking the link in the chart above.

We move on to “Sometimes By Step” which I usually refer to as “Step By Step” which thoroughly confuses everyone on the worship team (sorry team)  We will just be singing the chorus of this song, but there are also verses if you would like to check them out in the video link above.  This song is a statement of faith, and our goal to seek God every day to learn and walk in His ways rather than our own.

“Trust and Obey” continues our theme of obedience.  Though at times we want things to happen on our own time, God has greater plans and knowledge than we do.  We need to trust, and obey whatever it is that He tells us to do….sometimes that is to simply wait.  I’ve linked to the lyrics of this song in the chart above.  Take time to read through the text, and incorporate it into your own personal quiet time.

We finish up the music portion of the service with “Everlasting God”.  This song continues our theme of obedience with the statement “we will wait upon the Lord”.  This serves as yet another reminder that sometimes we have to wait on God’s timing rather than our own.  Check out a video of the song by clicking the link in the chart above.

Thanks for taking time to see what is going on this Sunday at Oasis.  For those of you who where at Community Group last night, we hope you really enjoyed it.  The rest of you I hope to see Wednesday night at 6:30p.m.

September 7th Sermon “When God Says _____________”

There are times in our life that we pray and we don’t get an answer. We pray and nothing happens and the answer is always blank. Today, we will look a check-list of things that could be causing God to be silent when you pray.

This week we begin a new series entitled “Simple Answers: What God Says When We Pray”.  This series is a lot about prayer, but specifically focusing on what to do when God responds, depending on how He responds.  This week we will focus on what to do when God says nothing.  I’m sure you have had those times in your life when it felt like your prayers couldn’t get past the ceiling of your room.  Today our music will focus on our longing to hear God speak, and the fact that we will praise Him no matter what our situation.

We begin this week with “In the Secret”.  I want to know You, I want to hear Your voice, I want to know You more”  What a personal cry to God as we proclaim our need to hear from Him.  Check out the link in the chart above to listen to this song.

“Blessed Be Your Name” is a song that reminds me of the story of Job.  With all that Job went through, I’m sure He wondered if God would ever speak to Him again.  After Job received all of the bad news, he walked down the center of town, tore his clothes, and fell face down and worshiped God.  Even in the times where we feel distance between us and our God, we should still praise Him.  Can you bless the name of God even in the hard times?  Check out this song by clicking the link in the chart above.

“Salvation Is Here” is a statement of faith, as we sing about the things we KNOW to be true about our God.  Even when times are tough, we can go back to what we know is true about our God.  Check out the link to this song by clicking the chart above.

We finish up the music portion of the service today with “Speak to My Heart” which is a prayer that God would speak.  The song goes on to make the statement “speak to my heart and I will obey”.  So often we ask God to speak, but when He does answer, often times we aren’t listening.  Check out the song by clicking the link in the chart above.

Thanks for taking time to see what is going on this Sunday at Oasis.  I look forward to worshipping with you Sunday.
