the-quest-for-changeMarch 1st Sermon “Being Patient With Change”

We live in a fast paced culture, where patience is not one of our stronger qualities.  Today, we will see that change is a process, and most people give up on the process too quickly.

We continue our series “The Quest for Change: The Journey of Lazarus” this Sunday with the topic “Being Patient With Change”.   For most of us, patience is probably one of those things that runs out way too quickly…..maybe I’m the only one….but I don’t think so.  Our God works in His perfect timing, but so often I find myself not wanting to wait on Him.  When trying to make a change in our lives, we want that change to immediately impact our lives in a drastic way, but most of the time change is a long process.  Maybe some of you can relate to this experience: One day I look in the mirror and say, “Where did this gut come from?  I have to do something about this”  The next morning or two I get up early, go for a jog and lift some weights.  By morning 3, I wondering why I’m not seeing some drastic difference.  My extra weight didn’t just jump on over night, it was a process (a very enjoyable process, but not very healthy).  In order for me to see a change, I have to be patient through the process, and not give up.  It’s the same way in every aspect of our lives.  Today our music deals a little with this topic.

“Sometimes By Step” talks about the process of change.  Most of the time we don’t make huge leaps in our Christian walk, it’s a steady, step by step pace.  The statement at the end of the chorus says, “And I will follow You all of my days” which is a statement of consistency.  Take time to listen to this song by clicking the link in the chart above.

“Be Glorified” talks about why we want to make a change in our lives and become more like Christ.  This song talks about many things that God has already done for us, and how we want to live our lives to bring glory to Him.

“Blessed Be Your Name” is a perfect song for the topic today, because so often it’s easy to wait for change as long as everything is going smoothly.  But it’s the difficult times in our lives that are really the test.  This song talks about praising God when times are good, and when times are bad.  Either way, our God is still in control and we need to have patience to wait on Him.

Finally we finish up the music portion of our service with “Everlasting God” which proclaims that God will never grow tired or weary of His work in our lives.  He will bring about the change in our lives if we will wait on Him and follow His ways.

It’s a little funny to me that while I have been typing this blog, I have “patiently” (yeah right) been waiting for our DSL to come back on.  Thanks for taking time to check out what will be happening at Oasis on Sunday.  I would say that I can’t wait to worship with you all Sunday, but with all this talk about patience, I better just say See you then!

the-quest-for-changeFebruary 22nd  Sermon “Seeing the Need For Change”

We live in a culture where many people have settled for a lesser life than God had planned for them.  As we study the Bible, we discover that God wants us to have life and have it more abundantly.  Today, you will be challenged to expect more from life and to reach out for something more than your present experience in life.

We begin a new series this Sunday entitled “The Quest for Change: The Journey of Lazarus”.  I must admit that change is not an easy thing for me, but it’s something that is necessary in our lives.  Our sermon this week deals with seeing the need for change.  Let’s face it, when we look at our Savior and compare His life to ours, it is easy to see that things need to change.  Our music today deals with the Holiness and faithfulness of our God.  So often I’m the opposite of those two things, and the world around me seems to encourage it.  But it should be a daily goal in my life to want to change, and be more like Christ.  This week as you listen to the songs by clicking the links in the chart above, take time to think about what needs to change in your life to be more pleasing to the Creator.  I look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday.

This is our final week of our series “Don’t Travel Alone”.  This week, our sermon pretty much sums up the series: “He Owns Us”.  Why should we live our lives in a way that is pleasing to God?  Because He owns us.  Our music today focuses on our service to God for His glory.  It also deals with the sacrifice that Christ made to pay the price for us.  Take time to listen to the music that has been selected for this week, and come prepared for a great time of worship.  I’ll look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday.

This will be our first Worship Service in our new facility, and I expect it to be a special time.  God has truly been blessing Oasis, and I’m really looking forward to see what He will do in the coming weeks.  We’ll be in a different environment this week, but our God is the same wherever we are.  Don’t let our new surroundings keep you from focusing on the God that has provided everything we will enjoy on Sunday.  Take time to listen to the music for this week as you prepare for our time of worship together.  I really look forward to worshipping with you on Sunday.
