March 1st Sermon “Being Patient With Change”
We live in a fast paced culture, where patience is not one of our stronger qualities. Today, we will see that change is a process, and most people give up on the process too quickly.

We continue our series “The Quest for Change: The Journey of Lazarus” this Sunday with the topic “Being Patient With Change”. For most of us, patience is probably one of those things that runs out way too quickly…..maybe I’m the only one….but I don’t think so. Our God works in His perfect timing, but so often I find myself not wanting to wait on Him. When trying to make a change in our lives, we want that change to immediately impact our lives in a drastic way, but most of the time change is a long process. Maybe some of you can relate to this experience: One day I look in the mirror and say, “Where did this gut come from? I have to do something about this” The next morning or two I get up early, go for a jog and lift some weights. By morning 3, I wondering why I’m not seeing some drastic difference. My extra weight didn’t just jump on over night, it was a process (a very enjoyable process, but not very healthy). In order for me to see a change, I have to be patient through the process, and not give up. It’s the same way in every aspect of our lives. Today our music deals a little with this topic.
“Sometimes By Step” talks about the process of change. Most of the time we don’t make huge leaps in our Christian walk, it’s a steady, step by step pace. The statement at the end of the chorus says, “And I will follow You all of my days” which is a statement of consistency. Take time to listen to this song by clicking the link in the chart above.
“Be Glorified” talks about why we want to make a change in our lives and become more like Christ. This song talks about many things that God has already done for us, and how we want to live our lives to bring glory to Him.
“Blessed Be Your Name” is a perfect song for the topic today, because so often it’s easy to wait for change as long as everything is going smoothly. But it’s the difficult times in our lives that are really the test. This song talks about praising God when times are good, and when times are bad. Either way, our God is still in control and we need to have patience to wait on Him.
Finally we finish up the music portion of our service with “Everlasting God” which proclaims that God will never grow tired or weary of His work in our lives. He will bring about the change in our lives if we will wait on Him and follow His ways.
It’s a little funny to me that while I have been typing this blog, I have “patiently” (yeah right) been waiting for our DSL to come back on. Thanks for taking time to check out what will be happening at Oasis on Sunday. I would say that I can’t wait to worship with you all Sunday, but with all this talk about patience, I better just say See you then!
