“Signing On With Others”

All through the Bible, we are taught to play with a team to accomplish great things for God. Wherever God wants you to leave your mark, he will have others there to help you accomplish the goal. Today, we will see that Caleb signed on with others to accomplish God’s purpose.

This has been a great series so far, and I expect it to get even better as we go.  Sometimes our music goes directly with what the sermon is about.  This week proved to be a little difficult to follow that trend.  I don’t really know how to always explain what I do, but often it seems God places songs in my head, and will not let me get away from them.  This week there are several of those songs.  Without trying to sound too “churchy”, it seems these are the songs God wants to hear us sing this week.   So let’s do it with all of our heart!

We will begin with the traditional version of “Jesus Saves” followed by a brand new song by the same title.  So brand new in fact that I can’t even get my hands on the CD for some reason.  You can listen to it on youtube though by clicking the link in the chart above.

“Come Magnify The Lord” has hopefully become a little more familiar through the past couple of months.  I hope this doesn’t sound conceited, but I really like this song.  I love the way we can shout out the chorus as we proclaim some things about our awesome God.   “You’re Worthy of My Praise” continues the theme of worship as we proclaim that He alone is worthy of our praise.

We will finish up with the song “Shine” which I think does fit loosely with our theme in the fact that we are singing collectively.  “WE will shine like stars in the universe……Jesus WE’LL be living for Your glory”.  To proclaim as a group of people that we will live for God’s glory is an awesome thing.

Our closing song on Sunday will be “Children of God” which is by my all time favorite Christian artist Steven Curtis Chapman.  I love being reminded that I am a child of God.  He calls me a son, and he loves to hear His children sing His praises.  Let’s rock it out as we leave the service on Sunday.

Thanks as always for checking out the blog, and preparing yourself for our time of worship together on Sunday.  This week will be even more special for me as my brother will be here, and playing a part in the service.  I really look forward to worshipping with you Sunday.

“Your Signature”

Everyone of us has a unique signature that cannot be duplicated by anyone. Your signature is not the only thing unique. You are unique. God did not make anyone else just like you.  Today, as we study the life of Caleb, we will discover the importance of just being yourself.

You’ve probably heard me talk about this before, but I think it’s worth repeating.  So often we want to be like someone else.  We want to have talents and abilities that another person has.  We want to look like him, or look like her.  I know it’s something I have struggled with often.  I’m thankful that God opened my eyes to the fact that He didn’t create me to be like anyone else….he created me to be Doug.  He created you to be you!  Today’s service deals a lot with this as Bro. Todd will be talking about “Your Signature”.  God placed you on this earth for a purpose….and that purpose is not to be like everyone else, but to be who God has created YOU to be.

Our music this week deals with this theme.  We open up with “Wonderful Maker” which celebrates our awesome creator.  He created us in His image, and with the talents and abilities that He wanted us to have.  From there, we celebrate the fact that the creator of the universe calls us friend.  “Friend Of God” is one of those songs that just makes me smile.  I love the first line “who am I that you are mindful of me, that you hear me when I call”  We go on to proclaim how amazing it is that God would call us friend.

We will be doing a new song to Oasis this week called “I Will Boast”.  My brother actually introduced me to this song (please don’t tell him this as I like to make him think that I know everything.  Ha!)  I really like the concept of this song as we are reminded that everything we “own” and every ability we have is not of us.  When we boast, we will boast in the Lord our God who alone is worthy.  Check out this new song by clicking the link in the chart above.  I think you’ll really enjoy it.

We will settle things down into an acoustic set towards the end of the music portion of the service with songs like “Just the Way I Am”, “How Great Thou Art”, and “How Great Is Our God”.

I’m really looking forward to this service, and believe it will be a special time of worship for us.  Thanks for taking time to check out what will be happening at Oasis on Sunday.  I look forward to worshiping with you then.

“Where Do I Sign?”

I believe most of us want to leave our mark on life, but sometimes knowing why God created us and what we should be doing seems complicated. Today, as we examine the life of Caleb, we will help you discover a simple way to know where God wants you to leave your mark on life.

Wow, what a service we had yesterday for Easter.  Special Thanks to all the Worship Team members who served yesterday.  As a worship leader, preparing for a service like yesterday with so many different pieces tends to cause a little stress.  I was so proud of the way everyone on the team did their job, and did it well.  A special thanks to David Fly and Lance Gipson for all the hard work on getting the sound ready for us Sunday.  These guys spent a lot of extra hours through the week making what we did yesterday possible.  Thanks guys.

Alright, moving on from yesterday.  This Sunday we begin a new series entitled “Leaving Your Mark”.  It’s a series on the life of Caleb.  Caleb is not one of those guys who gets a lot of press, but his story is one of faithfulness and courage.  We can learn from his life, how we can better live ours.

We begin this week with “Today is the Day” and “Everyday” which to me are songs of commitment.  Both songs are making a statement to a decision to follow and worship Christ every day.  It’s not a one time decision; we have to make it every day…..most of the time many times during the course of a day.

The songs “Famous One”, and “Glorious One” are simply songs of praise and adoration as we proclaim who our God is.  He is the one whom we have decided to follow, and we want the world to know Him.

“Without You” is a song of reflection as we are reminded that without our Savior, we are nothing.  The very breath we take is given to us by God, and without Him, we couldn’t do a thing.

We will finish the services with the song “Not To Us” which gives us the opportunity to claim that everything we do is for Christ.  To HIS name be the glory, because without Him we are nothing.

Thanks for taking time this week to check out what we will be doing on Sunday.  I truly believe that as you prepare this week by listening to the music in the chart above, that God will open your heart for special blessings as we come together for our corporate time of worship Sunday.  I’ll look forward to worshiping with you Sunday

It’s Easter Sunday, and it’s time to celebrate!  We know that our Savior Lives, and that we one day will live with Him forever.  Our music this week deals with the resurrection of Christ, and the fact that we believe our Redeemer lives and works in our lives.  Take time this week to listen to the songs in the chart above.  The more familiar you are with our songs for Sunday, the more you can lift your voice, and truly enjoy worshipping our God.  I’m also really excited about the close of services where I am expecting the choir and band to bring down the house with a special song for that day.  Find someone this week that you can invite to join you at Oasis.  As I was reminded during the “Breakaway” series, every person you lay your eyes upon this week is someone who Christ died for.  You might be just the person to introduce them this week.  See you Sunday!
