living beyond myself logo webAugust 30, Sermon “What, Me A Priest?”

Today, we will discover that the Church should be a congregation full of priests (I Peter 2:9), who are equipped by leaders, teachers, and pastors to carry out ministry and thus become the core volunteer base of a church. Imagine for a minute the impact that could be made if Churches across the globe rallied around this format for ministry, where every Christ-follower is out on the playing field doing the work of the local church.

What an awesome day at Oasis yesterday!  Great job Mary Ann & the rest of the team for leading us in worship.  We continue our series “Living Beyond Myself” this Sunday, and are talking about the role of every church member in the church.  If we could grasp the concept that we all have an important role to fill at the church, and follow through with it, we would see a major transformation at Oasis.  Really take time to pray that God would open your eyes this week to what He would have you to do.  Also take time to listen to the music in the chart above, and better prepare yourself for a great time of worship on Sunday.  I look forward to seeing you then.

Sermon for Sunday August 23, 2009

living beyond myself logo web“Take The Challenge”

On this Sunday, we will be challenged to block off some time this week to serve someone with giving of ourselves 100%.  We will be asked to evaluate how it feels to serve someone else with our whole heart. This sermon will call for us to move into action this week by doing something with the message that we have heard.

We kick off a new series this Sunday entitled “Moving Beyond Myself”.  I am so excited about this series, and believe God is going to transform lives, which will also transform our church.  God has called us all to serve, and through this series we will discover why, and how it is we can accomplish this.

Mary Ann Doggett will be leading worship this Sunday, which I know will be a tremendous blessing.  You can check out the songs we will be doing by clicking the titles in the chart above.

Beyond the Surface - Title CardSermon for Sunday August 16, 2009

“Need Accountability?”

Today, we will see that the most valuable thing about friendship is accountability.  As we look at Proverbs 27-5-6, we will find that we all need friends who will tell us the truth not flatter us when we are making destructive choices in our life.

We finish our series “Beyond the Surface” this Sunday as we talk about accountability.  We all need people in our lives who can hold us accountable, and tell us the truth when we need to hear it.  This has been an awesome series, and if you have missed any of the sermons, be sure to purchase the series album which should be available August 23rd.  Also, the book we have been reading has been a real eye opener for me.  If by chance you haven’t been involved in this study, I would highly recommend getting the book we have been going through, and read it.

Our music this week mostly focuses on the goodness of God, and celebrating the fact that He loves us enough to save us.  Check out the music by clicking the links in the chart above.

We begin a new series on August 23rd entitled “Moving Beyond Myself” which is a four week series on service.  This will be a series unique to anything we have ever done at Oasis, so be sure to check it out beginning the 23rd.   As always, I look forward to worshiping with you on Sunday.

“The Friend’s Responsibility”

Friendship is not all fun and games. Confronting friends about destructive behavior in their life can be a risky thing, however it is our responsibility to love people enough to tell them the truth.  Today, we will learn how to be accountable and hold others accountable.

We continue our series this week “Beyond the Surface” talking about the side of friendship that most people would rather avoid.  Do you love your friends enough to be able to confront them when they are wrong?  We’re not just talking about personal preferences like which side of the roll the toilet paper should dispense from, or whether to push the toothpaste from the top or bottom.  What we are talking about is speaking the truth in love.  When a friend is going down a road that will lead them into trouble, it’s our responsibility as a friend to act.  Our sermon this week tells us how we should act in such situations.

As I was thinking about the music for this service, I of course knew there wasn’t a lot to go with for such a topic.  We will open up with “Happy Day” which is simply a song that celebrates the fact that Christ came that we could be with him forever.  As I thought more about the topic, I was reminded that God doesn’t ask us to do anything that He doesn’t do.  In John 15, Jesus calls us friends, which is where the celebration of “Friend of God” comes from in this service.  God calls us “friend”, but He also confronts us when we are wrong.  All throughout the scriptures you can see God confronting and disciplining those who would stray.  Proverbs 3:11-12 says, “My son, do not despise the Lord’s discipline and do not resent his rebuke, because the Lord disciplines those he loves.”  If we are a true friend, we will gather the courage to confront those we love with the truth, even when it’s not the easiest thing to do.

“Forever” and “Faithful” are songs that declare of course God’s faithfulness, and the fact that He will never change.   We will close the service with “We Shine” which is a declaration of what we intend to do as Christians, to shine the light of Christ to a darkened world.

Thanks for taking the time to check out what will be happening on Sunday.  I’m really looking forward to this service.  It’s been a great series, and if we truly take the message and run with it, we can turn our church, and world upside down.  I look forward to seeing you Sunday.
