Concert of Praise Help

Concert of Praise Logo Hey faithful bloggers (or at least blog readers).  I am in the process of putting together the set list for our second “Concert of Praise” which will be held Sunday, April 27 at 6:00p.m.  I’m really looking forward to this special evening of worship, and would like to enlist your help to make it even more meaningful.  “How can I help?” you may be asking.   Well, here’s how: What song or songs have spoken to you?  Maybe there is a song we have done during a worship service that really touched your heart.  Maybe there is a song that often comes to your mind when you are going through certain trials in your life.  Maybe it’s a song we haven’t even done at Oasis as of yet.  Take just a moment to respond, and feel free to go into detail.  We do a lot of original music here at Oasis, because I know it comes from the heart of the person in our church who wrote it.  Now I would like to know what song is in your heart?   You probably haven’t written an original melody, or lyrics, but I know there is a song that specifically speaks to you every time you hear, or sing it.  What is it?  I can’t promise that we will use everything, but it is my hope to use a lot of what you respond with.   Thanks for your help, and be in prayer for the entire Worship Team as we put this special night together.

Hey Doug! I am glad you are asking for “requests” again. I forgot to do this last year, so I wanted to be sure and do it this year. I really like the song, “He is able”. (I think that is the title.) The words are “He is able, more that able to handle anything that comes my way….” This song always speaks volumes to me and speaks of how powerful our God is. It is a great reminder to me that even though the giants in my life seem huge, I serve an even bigger God who is able to handle anything that comes my way!”

No doubt, the song that always gets me is ‘How Great is Our God’.

  3. Jessica Belote says:

Oooh, so many to choose from. But I think my favorite is “Mighty to Save!” I love to sing about how strong our God is, and how He can touch and change my life. I also love the one, I think, that is called Rescue — it has the line “I need you, Jesus, to come to my rescue, where else can I go? There’s no other name by which I am saved. Capture me with grace, Come and rescue me…” It gets me every time I hear it!

    Alisha, Mike, & Jessica,

Thanks for your comments! Those are all great songs, and it’s always really cool for me to here how they have touched your lives. Thanks for responding so quickly.

  5. Gosh – how do you pick!!!! I do always LOVE LOVE LOVE “Sind to the King”—that song is packed full of exclamations of our God and ivites us all to join in singing a song declaring that we belong to Jesus. Then it talks about the return of Christ when we will all be gatherd together as believers…… “For His returning we watch and we pray, we will be ready the dawn of that day, we’ll join in singing with all the redeemed, when SATAN IS VANQUISHED AND MY JESUS IS KING”. Wow, I have tears writing it. My heart sings it out in joy awaiting the day. Can’t you just imagine singing with this massive family to our Father God and Jesus Christ our Savior. I have chills typing as I sing that song to myself! I love it!! I also like it when we do hymns Doug style! “How Great is Our God” will forever remind me of the road the Lord carried us down when Brantley was born and how He showed us how great he really is and that he is in charge of the beginning and the end. Wow, I’m ready to bust out in chorus right now!!!

  6. Yeah, totally went on about the song and spelled it wrong-“Sing to the King” —leave it to me!!!

  7. Cindy Montgomery says:

Wow! I love all the songs already requested. There have been so many that have touched me in so many ways. One of my favorite praise songs is “No God Like Jehovah” I love the build of repeating “There’s no God like Jehovah… to BEHOLD HE COMES riding on the clouds shining like the sun at the trumpets call…” wow, I look forward to the day of the trumpet call, and our Jesus comes for us!!! Thank you for all the prayers, thought and talent you put into this concert. I feel blessed to be a small part of something so moving.

  8. Cassie Page and Tami Ross says:

Ok…We don’t know the name of it, so we will need your help! But it is the one where men and women have different parts and some of the words are “Prince of Peace and I will live my life for you.” It is just a beautiful song and touches our heart everytime we sing it esp. since the men and women are singing different parts! Mmmm… that is a beautiful song!!!!

  9. Paige Brumley says:

I think my favorite two are Indescribable and Salvation is Here. I love Indescribable because you get to see the majesty and greatness of our God. The things of this world that confuse us and cause us to question things He knows the answer to because He made them! “Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go,
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow? Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light, Yet conceals it to give us the coolness of night? None can fathom…” Hold on everybody… the best part is still to come. In a world full of conditional love we serve a God who loves us no matter what “You see the depths of my heart and You love me the same. You are amazing God.”

Salvation is here is absolutely amazing. I must be big on seeing God’s majesty because yet again this one does the same. My favorite part is “God above all my hopes and fears, And I don’t care what the world throws at me now, I’m gonna be alright, Cause I know my God saved the day, And I know His word never fails, And I know my God made a way for me.” With all of the stuff going on in our lives how awesome is it to know that our God is still in control. That no matter what we are facing and how little faith we have at that moment that the God above all has promised us salvation and that HE will never leave us. He is so faithful!

    Thanks Doug!

Christina, Cindy, Cassie, Tami, & Paige,

Thanks so much for your input. I really appreciate you taking the time to respond. Tami & Cassie, I think the name of your song is “You Are Holy”. It’s awesome to see how God moves through the songs He has inspired. I’m hoping to work a lot of the songs that are mentioned above into Concert of Praise. If not, I’ll be sure we use them soon during a regular service at Oasis. Thanks

    Doug

  11. John Anderson says:

Dougy B, it’s hard to pick just one. I enjoy all of the songs that we do at Oasis. Sing to the King would have to be a top three for sure though. Especially the second verse….hate to repeat a song that has already been mentioned (especially by my wife), but I do love that song.

    How about Pharoh Pharoh???? J/K

Just pick out anything that I can double strum on!!!

    JA

  12. Courtney Ford says:

I agree that it is hard to pick just one but a song that has meant a lot to me is All Because Of Jesus; specifically, the line “It’s all because of Jesus I’m alive.” Every time I hear it I think of the time in my life before I was saved when Jesus was with me anyway, leading me to the people and place where I would find him.

And I can’t leave out my all time favorite Doug and Cindy original, Song of Praise.

  13. Danielle Dunn says:

I think my top three are “Never Let Go,” (Matt Redman), “Sing to the King,” and “How Great is Our God.” All of these songs move me in a very powerful way. I know that “Never Let Go” was the song that reminded me of God’s control and power over my life during the hard times I experienced this past summer and am still dealing with those issues. That song just really gives me hope of brighter days, especially for those who are faithful to Him. Sing to the King and How Great is our God also remind me of God’s power over my life. They bring me a lot of comfort and a great worship experience. 🙂

  14. Amy Blair says:

“How Great is Our God” is my vote. Very moving song that always to speaks right to me! Actually anything we do by singer Chris Tomlin is always my favorite!

  15. Brenda word says:

    Doug,
The song ‘Free’ has been a favorite of mine ever since we first sang it at Oasis. The Sunday after my younger sister took her own life (Sat. Sept. 30, 2006) I sang with the Praise Team and it was one of the songs we sang that week. Knowing in my heart that Lee Ann was listening, even though she was no longer with me in this life was a reminder that WE ARE TRULY FREE when we have Jesus Christ in our hearts. This song will always be so special to me and always reminds me of Lee Ann and that she is totally free and with our Savior. I also love the song ‘Jesus is All the World to Me.’
He really IS all the world to me and I am reminded every time I hear this song.
I have written several words to songs myself but am not good with writing the notes; I just know the tunes in my own head and sometimes ‘borrow’ tunes from other songs I’ve heard, but these 2 songs (Free & Jesus is All the World to Me) are my favorites that we sing at Oasis.
    Thanks, Doug,
    Brenda
